Cordoba Points of Interest

Many travellers don’t spend enough time in Cordoba to see all of its wonderful attractions. We’ve picked a small selection you shouldn’t miss, but there are many more hidden gems we could have included!

  • Plaza de San Martín: Stop by the city’s central square to see a statue honouring Argentina’s most important military leader and liberator, General José de Martín. Be sure to visit the neighbouring Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción to see its ornate nave and majestic exterior.
  • Cabildo de Cordoba: Originally built in the 17th century, this colonial town hall has served many different purposes throughout history, including an auditorium, police station, museum, tourist information site and even a jail!
  • Museo de la Memoria: Learn about the history of Argentina’s “Dirty War” in this museum where hundreds of “desaparecidos” photos are exhibited, and gain insight into the dark events of this turmoil-filled period.
  • Manzana Jesuítica: The Jesuit Block, is a must see for any tourist. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it includes the University of Cordoba, a church, a school, a library and several other original 17th century Jesuit buildings. Be sure to ask about the tours of the University of Cordoba Historic Museum, to get the most out of this historic and religious site.
  • Only a two-and-half hour drive, head to Mina Clavero, and dive into its valley rivers for rafting, fishing, canoeing, swimming and sun-bathing. Artisan markets and street night shows abound, so be sure to take a stroll at night.
  • Feel like hiking or climbing? Then Sierras de Cordoba is waiting for you. Although a longer drive from the city, this mountain range has much to offer. Thanks to its beautiful green hills, crystal clear streams and foamy cascades, unique salt lakes and intricate paths, fun-filled days are guaranteed! Bird-watching, horseback and zip-line riding are other popular activities to do around its many different camping sites, farms and “estancias”.

Weather in Cordoba

Cordoba enjoys four marked seasons with usually moderate to high humidity, so sticky hot summers and windy chilly winters are part of its climate. With temperatures as high as 100 °F (38 °C) in its hottest month, January, summer is the top season to travel. Spring and autumn are other popular seasons, especially for local tourism. If you visit the city from November to March, be sure to take a hat, sunscreen, and bottle of water for every outdoor trip!

Cordoba Cuisine

The food in Cordoba is mostly traditionally Argentinean, fused with Italian staples. Available at most sit-down restaurant you’ll find classics such as the delicious “asado” (the Argentine hot-coal grilled barbecue), Olivier salad, crispy “milanesas” (breaded thin cuts of beef or chicken then pan-fried), hot “empanadas” (savoury meat and veggie filled pastries), crispy baked potato wedges with “chimichurri” (a typical Argentine dressing), and “matambre arrollado” (a flank steak stuffed, rolled and then baked), among a dozen other choices of Italian pasta dishes. For a cheaper treat, get a taste of “panchos” and “choripanes” (grilled hot dogs and sausage sandwiches) at fast-food and street eateries. Other vegetarian options include “tartas” (Argentina’s version of quiches). When it comes to drinking, wine and fernet are the most common alcoholic beverages, being fernet and Coke Cordoba’s quintessential party drink!
