Air Europa will allocate all collected funds to Manos Unidas, contributing to improving the living conditions of the indigenous populations in Chiquitanía, one of the most vulnerable areas of Santa Cruz in Bolivia, promoting gender equality and the implementation of sustainable productive systems.

Manos Unidas Project

The Chiquitanía, one of the most vulnerable regions of Bolivia, is home to indigenous communities whose livelihoods are at risk and who are living on the poverty line, largely due to climate change and deforestation. The project advocates for the development of strategies from a territorial and intercultural approach, recognizing gender equity and incorporating women in political, social, and productive development processes; while implementing sustainable environmental management actions.

What does the project consist of?

The goal is to strengthen capacities in the management of rights in the communities of the Chiquitanía, empowering 302 indigenous families (over 1,200 people) in the municipalities of Concepción and San Ignacio de Velasco.

Empowerment of Indigenous Women and Youth: The active participation of women and youth in the political and social life of their communities is promoted, including the development of local leadership and the defense of their rights, ensuring gender equality.

Sustainable Productive Development: Diversified and sustainable agricultural systems are implemented to ensure food security and enable these communities to face challenges such as climate change, drought, and forest fires.

Influence on Public Policies: Work is conducted with communities to influence local policies related to water management, the use of natural resources, and the protection of their territories, always seeking equity and sustainability.

Through the implementation of this project, the communities in Chiquitanía will achieve:

  • Food sovereignty: Thanks to agroecological systems that promote sustainable food production and the commercialization of surpluses.
  • Improved local governance: Women and youth will take part in decision-making spaces, fostering greater equity within their communities.

Climate resilience: Their capacities to manage their territories adaptively will be strengthened, protecting their natural resources from degradation.

This work also directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 1: No Poverty
  • SDG 5: Gender Equality
  • SDG 15: Life on Land

The project spans 12 months, focusing on training communities, improving their livelihoods, and ensuring long-term sustainable development. The entire process is closely monitored by Manos Unidas and its local partner, the Center for Research and Promotion of Farmers (CIPCA), ensuring that every action is effective and transparent.
